Hands up if you love caramelised onions!!

Well I do and have been making them for years in my Thermomix®. Previously in my TM31 the recipe I used included a lot of butter and then added in a little sugar and balsamic vinegar towards the end. The outcome was great, but given the butter content it would set a bit in the fridge and need a little reheating to use.

With the Thermomix® TM6 and the high heat function, I can make BBQ style caramelised onions in just a few minutes. The recipe is very hands off – just oil and onions into the bowl to cook on high heat, then add some balsamic vinegar and salt and cook a few minutes more. Done!

This recipe is one of my must have basics to have on hand. As seen in the photos below, one of my favourite combos is having these on top of some Tuna Dip on toast. So yum!

Quick side note: I use half the cream cheese specified in the tuna dip recipe – so much more tuna-y!

The Caramelised Onion recipe is one of the recipes that showcases the high heat function on the Thermomix® TM6, which effectively stir fries your meat or vegetables while you do something else!

  1. These onions make a wonderful topper on top of some dips; great on top of cheese; on top of pate and many other things.
They do have a better flavour I think when made with the high heat mode of the Thermomix TM6 compared to either the Thermomix TM31 or the Thermomix TM5.
