The Thermomix® Cutter saves you even more time

The Thermomix® Cutter was launched in Australia in January 2023, following launches in other countries in late 2022. It was so wildly popular that there were global shortages for most of 2023, however it is now readily available and back in The Mix Shop in Australia as of 7 May 2024.

I love how the Thermomix® TM6 just keeps getting better, and I love my Thermomix® Cutter. It helps you save even more time when cooking with your Thermomix®. The Cutter is compatible with the Thermomix® TM6 and the Thermomix® TM5.

I wanted to share how I have been using it, plus let you know how it works and how you can get one.

If you are wanting to buy your Thermomix® Cutter then please click the button below. I would appreciate you adding me (Jo Reardon) as your consultant at checkout.

What is the Thermomix® Cutter and how does it work?

Grating and Slicing with the Thermomix® Cutter

The Thermomix® Cutter adds slicing and grating to your Thermomix®. Imagine no longer needing to slice up all those salad or pizza ingredients. Perfect!

For the Thermomix® TM6, two new modes have been added – Grating and Slicing.

For Thermomix® TM5 owners, you can also use the Thermomix® Cutter by using Speed 4 (for thick slicing and grating) and Speed 4 Reverse (for thin slicing and grating).

There are some great FAQs all about the Thermomix® Cutter on the Vorwerk support page (who manufacture the Thermomix®).

A couple of key tips from that page include:

  • Slice or grate all the food you want to use in a recipe before starting the recipe with your Thermomix®.
  • The right type of cut depends on placing the disc with the right side up. The modes can't take care of the correct placing of the disc.
  • A gentle and steady push is all you need for optimal cutting results. Basically you just need to guide down the pusher with your hand while ingredients are in the feeder tube of the cutter.

I have put together a short video playlist for you that shows you the Thermomix® Cutter in action and exactly how it works.

Enjoy!

I have difficulty cutting up vegetables. Will the Thermomix® Cutter help me?

Most definitely. If you have pain or some restrictions with using your wrists and hands to cut up vegetables, then I am confident that you will love the Thermomix® Cutter.

You will be able to use it for all vegetables and fruit that is reasonably firm. Even tomatoes, strawberries and avocado!

This post also talks about using your NDIS funding to buy your Thermomix® TM6.

How do I clean the Thermomix® Cutter?

All parts of the Thermomix® Cutter are dishwasher safe. However they are very easily cleaned by running under warm water.

The cutting disc can be cleaned in the dishwasher, preferably on the top basket. However, Vorwerk recommends cleaning the cutting disc under running water with a washing-up brush. This will help to keep the high-quality blades sharp for longer. Never soak the Cutting Disc in water to avoid the possibility of oxidation.

Where to find recipes using the Thermomix® Cutter

With the launch of the Thermomix® Cutter in Australia, three new collections have been launched in Cookidoo®.

For each collection, the TM6 version uses the new Slicing and Grating modes, and the TM5 version uses Speed 4.

  • Thermomix® Cutter Welcome Book: TM6 | TM5
  • Thermomix® Cutter: TM6 | TM5
  • Light Lunches with Thermomix® Cutter: TM6 | TM5

Collections have also been released in other countries, containing some of the same recipes and also some different recipes.

  • Thermomix® Cutter: TM6 | TM5 (UK and Ireland)
  • Thermomix® Cutter Welcome Booklet: TM6 | TM5 (UK and Ireland)
  • TM-Basics Thermomix® Cutter: TM6 | TM5 (USA)
  • TM-Basics Thermomix® Cutter: TM6 | TM5 (Canada)

You can also search for Cutter in recipes and filter by English to find recipes. You will get some multiples given the results are from several countries.

Click here to see the TM Cutter recipe search results.

Aside from the recipes that use the Thermomix® Cutter as part of the guided recipe, you of course will have other recipes you make that call for various sliced or grated fruit and vegetables, and you can use the TM Cutter to help with that part of the recipe, by accessing the new modes (or using speed 4 on the TM5).

How I have used the Thermomix® Cutter

I want to share with you how I have been using the new Thermomix® Cutter. I have now had it for a few weeks and I love it!

Coleslaw made with the Thermomix® Cutter

The first thing I made with my new Thermomix® Cutter was the new coleslaw recipe on Cookidoo® that uses the new Grating and Slicing modes as part of the guided recipe.

This recipe uses thin grating for the carrot, thick grating for the apple, and thin slicing for the cabbage and onion.

I really liked the new coleslaw recipe, although I do prefer my coleslaw a little chunkier. So next time, instead of following a recipe, I freestyled a little!

I used the thick slice for the cabbage and onion, and the thick grate for the carrot, apple and cheese. Then I threw in a few cashews and my homemade Thermie mayonnaise. Ready so fast. The result was great and just how I like it. I have already made this a couple of times.

Gratin Dauphinois made with the Thermomix® Cutter

The Gratin Dauphinois recipe on Cookidoo® is a definite winner in our house. I have made this a few times before I had the Thermomix® Cutter.

The prep was almost zero when using the Cutter, as I also chose to not peel the washed potatoes I had as the peel was very thin. I do normally peel the potatoes with the Blade Cover & Peeler and the Peeler mode in just two minutes.

So thick slices, then into the bowl with cream and seasoning for 10 minutes, then into the oven. Perfect!

One of the new Cutter Collection recipes is a Potato Bake. This is a very similar recipe, except you don't partly cook the potatoes in the Thermomix® as you do for the dauphinois. This also looks like a winner!

Leek and Fennel Goats Cheese Tart using the Thermomix® Cutter

This recipe is in one of the new collections released for the Thermomix® Cutter.

The Leek and Fennel Goats Cheese Tarts were very easy, with the Cutter chopping the two main ingredients perfectly, followed by the Thermomix® cooking them perfectly.

Quick Pickles made with the Thermomix® Cutter

There are two new quick pickles recipes recently released on Cookidoo®. If you have been do a Thermomix® Demo in the last month of so you may have already seen these being made.

Potato Chips using the Thermomix® Cutter

One thing I have now done a few times is sweet potato chips, thickly sliced, a bit of oil then roasted in the oven. I have done this with standard potatoes too. So good 😀.

I have also used it to slice my onions and capsicums for fajitas, and similarly for pizzas. It makes both of those dinners super easy. The photos below also show sliced potato, zucchini and carrot.
