Should you buy a Thermomix® TM6?
For most people, buying a Thermomix® is not a quick or easy decision. There is no getting away from the fact that the cost means that most people will stop to think about it.
The purpose of my blog and the information I share with you, is so you can start to work out if the value of the Thermomix® is there for you and your circumstances.
In this post I share some of the common questions around this topic and some information to help you answer them, for yourself.
If you do decide that a Thermomix® would be of value to you, I would love to be your consultant (if you are in Australia) and help you learn to use and love your Thermomix®. If you are not in Australia – read on, I have something for you too!

Will I use a Thermomix® enough?
The Thermomix® is a kitchen appliance that can effectively replace many other appliances – some you may already own, and others that you don't.
Click here to read about what the Thermomix® can do.
It is able to help you with every meal and snack you make. Sometimes it may be just one part of a meal, and often the whole meal.
The best thing to do, is to find a spot on the kitchen bench for your Thermomix® and keep it there. You will use it almost everyday once you learn what it can do.
Let's look at a typical day and see the variety of what the Thermomix® can help you make. I am highlighting some Thermomix® recipes from Cookidoo®, which is the Thermomix® recipe database.

Lunch:
- Egg cups
- Tuna dip (great with caramelised onion on top)

How hard is it to learn to use a Thermomix®?
The Thermomix® TM6 is connected by wifi to the Cookidoo® recipe database. With that connection you can plan your meals from Cookidoo® directly on the TM6, on the website, or directly on the app (Android or iOS).
Once you have chosen what you wish to cook, the TM6 uses Guided Cooking to take you through the recipe step by step. It even reminds you to turn on the oven!
As well as Guided Cooking, you have the option to use Manual Cooking to make recipes you may find in cookbooks or free online. There are also many modes that you can use to create an incredible variety of dishes.
To help you get to know the Thermomix® TM6 and for you to use it to its' potential, I have created the ThermoJo 30 Day Kickstart.
The ThermoJo 30 Day Kickstart gives you 30 days of focused videos showing you how to use every aspect of the Thermomix® TM6, every setting and every mode. Plus step by step videos to show you how to get the most out of Cookidoo® and your Thermomix®, along with many recipe recommendations.
Until recently, this has been exclusively for my Thermomix® customers who have chosen me as their consultant. However, I am now opening this up to everyone, wherever you are in the world.
Will a Thermomix® save me time cooking?
Will you save time with a Thermomix® TM6? The answer can only be a very big YES.
The key way that the Thermomix® TM6 saves you time, is that it does the cooking and the stirring for you. You don't even need to be in the kitchen! For example, a risotto that is normally fairly labour intensive with a lot of stirring over the pot, now takes a few minutes of preparation by you and then it cooks and stirs for you. This really does become a meal you cook any day of the week.
Similarly, the Thermomix® TM6 has a high heat function that can stir fry your meat and vegetables. Again, this happens while you do something else.
In terms of chopping up vegetables for you, it does that too. It can finely cut your onion and garlic at the beginning of a recipe, then add in the other vegetables you may want to hide from your children. You can finely grate your parmesan cheese, and so much more.
Plus early in 2023 the Thermomix® Cutter was launched in Australia – this can thickly or thinly slice and grate pretty much anything. I love it!
Since I bought my TM6, two new accessories have been introduced, along with three new modes. These accessories and modes can save you a lot of time when preparing your meals.
- The Thermomix® Blade Cover and Peeler is fantastic. I really didn’t think I would use it much, but I use it every time I need to peel some potatoes or other vegetables. It is super easy and lets me get on with other parts of the meal preparation.
- The Thermomix® Cutter (launched in early 2023) and new modes Grating and Slicing are a great time saving add on to the Thermomix®. Now you can grate and slice everything – getting a consistent result as well as saving time with meal prep.
The Guided Cooking feature is also a time saver. It makes the whole process quicker as you will never miss a step as it guides you through the recipe.
Can a Thermomix® really help me save money on food?
There are many examples of simple basics that you can cheaply make in your Thermomix® to save money.
Over time you will find that you make more and more in your Thermomix®, to save money and also because so often homemade tastes so much better. There is so much you can make.
A few examples include (and for each of these there are many different recipes):
Will a Thermomix® help me eat more healthy food?
Making more food from scratch and using fresh ingredients is always going to be a healthier way to eat. You can avoid the additives and preservatives in many foods by making them yourself.
The recipes I have linked to in the previous section on saving money, also apply here as you know exactly what is going into your food and can avoid the numbers and nasties.
Often choosing a less healthy option is due to convenience or not having time to cook. So the time saving from using the Thermomix® helps with that aspect, and once you start making meals in your Thermomix® you will soon see how easy it can be.
To eat well you do need to put some effort into planning. Thermomix® helps with meal planning via the Cookidoo® recipes app and website. Cookidoo® has the facility for meal planning by saving recipes to “My Week”, and you can then add recipes to your shopping list. In Australia this shopping list can be linked to your Woolworths online shopping account. It is super easy to be organised, and therefore have everything you need on hand to make your meals and snacks each week.
How will I know what I can cook in a Thermomix®?
Cookidoo® is the recipe database created by Thermomix®. It includes over 85,000 recipes from many countries, using the Thermomix®. Of these, over 3,000 are from Australia and over 10,000 are in English.
You can start a one month free trial with Cookidoo® and start searching for recipes you may like. You can save these recipes in Collections you create in your account (like folders).
When you purchase a Thermomix® TM6 in Australia, the first time you turn on the machine you can log into your Cookidoo® account. Once you log in, your account automatically has an additional 6 months added to your subscription. There are similar arrangements in other countries where the Thermomix® is sold.
Watch the video below for a short introduction to Cookidoo®, showing you more of the variety of dishes you can make.
Visit my Cookidoo® playlist on YouTube to learn more about Cookidoo®.
Once you become familiar with the Thermomix® and Cookidoo®, you will find that your confidence increases and you start to try recipes that you never would have imagined making before you owned a Thermomix®. For me, I would never have made bread and pastries, yoghurt and sauces, or things that needed melted chocolate or caramel.
You really will start to enjoy cooking a greater variety of food. You are also likely to enjoy entertaining more as you know you can put together great food for everyone to enjoy.
Will the Thermomix® cook enough for my large family?
Is the Thermomix® really big enough is a common question from people who need to cook for larger groups or families. However this really isn't something you need to worry about.
The Thermomix® bowl has a capacity of 2.2 litres. In addition, the Varoma (the steamer that sits on top) has a capacity of 3.3 litres. It really does hold a lot.
The capacity question is mainly around main meals, as of course snacks, sauces, dips and the like are not a problem and can also often be doubled.
For main meals, you can search Cookidoo® based on serving sizes to find the meals that will easily feed 6 or more people. There is also now the facility to scale many dishes to suit the number of servings you need. So even if the recipe says it is for 6 people, you may be able to scale it to feed 8 or more and it will show you all the ingredients for this number of servings.
Click here to watch my video on the Cookidoo® scaling feature.
If you have a larger family, I recommend that you have a look at Cookidoo® and search for dishes you may like. You can sign up for a free trial to look around Cookidoo® properly. If you don't have a Cookidoo® account, then for any recipes I link to from my blog, you can see the ingredients and other information, just not the full method for the recipe.
Will the Thermomix® and Cookidoo® be accessible for me?
The Thermomix® TM6 offers a lot of features and functions that will assist you everyday.
One of the best aspects of the Thermomix® is that it is portable. So if it works best for you to have the Thermomix® placed on a lower table than a standard kitchen benchtop, then that can be easily done.
The settings of the Thermomix® TM6 allow you to alter the sounds. You can choose the sounds, duration and volume. In addition you can change the brightness of the screen.
The Cookidoo® website and apps are accessible and readable using screen reader technology, and with Voiceover on Apple devices. I have also tested the Envision app on an iPhone, and when placed in front of the Thermomix® TM6 screen, it will read out what is on the screen.
In terms of languages, when you first set up your new Thermomix®, you select the language you wish to use. In addition, Cookidoo® includes recipes in many languages and you can change your search filters to always search for your preferred language or languages. There is also a setting on the Thermomix® TM6 to set your preferred keyboard layout, to use when searching Cookidoo® directly on the machine.
I have an earlier model Thermomix®, it is worth upgrading?
The earlier models of the Thermomix® still give you many benefits and help you every day in the kitchen. The TM6 does have a number of features, and many modes, that are not included with earlier models.
Two of the key features that make the Thermomix® TM6 stand out are Guided Cooking, and the ability to cook at higher temperatures.

How can I afford a Thermomix? What are the payment options?
As I mentioned at the start of this post, the Thermomix® is not a cheap appliance. For me, and many others, it does however represent good value due to the impact it can have in your household to assist with everyday cooking.
If you are thinking about purchasing a Thermomix® TM6 then you will be pleased to know that there are a number of payment options to choose from.
The payment options include:
- A single payment by credit card or PayPal
- Three payments over two months
- 24 months interest free financing through Zip Money (and occasional special offers with longer terms)
- AfterPay
- Earn your Thermomix® by making sales as a consultant
What is a Thermomix® consultant and do I need one?
A Thermomix® Consultant is included when you purchase a Thermomix® TM6. It does not cost you any more to have the services of a consultant. If you choose to purchase a Thermomix® online and do not select a consultant, then one will be allocated to you. Consultants receive a commission for each sale.
The role of a consultant includes:
- Showcase the features and functions of the Thermomix® TM6 so that potential customers can decide if they would like to purchase.
- Assist new customers to get to know their Thermomix® and learn how best to use it each day.
- Help customers with any issues they may experience and respond to questions – be their first contact with all Thermomix® questions or issues.
- Ensure customers are aware of the opportunity to earn additional accessories by introducing the Thermomix® to their friends and family.
If you do decide that a Thermomix® would be of value to you, I would love to be your consultant (if you are in Australia) and help you learn to use and love your Thermomix® through my ThermoJo 30 Day Kickstart, video training for Thermomix® and Cookidoo®.
